Art for Charity...

After the fun and games of today (my mother was hit by a car this morning, been at the hospital most of the day) Unfortunately I will not be attending the charity event this evening as planned... BUT my Art still will.
I have donated 7 pieces to a Double-Bill FUNdraiser a dear friends daughter is hosting. This is being posted later than planned too, I'm still hoping a few Ottawa Peeps can make it out to this FUN event! :O)

Her email to me:
Hallo!

Just dropping a quick line to explain the FUNdraising part of my lil' party, and of course to thank you profusely for your help!

The event is being held on Wednesday, April 18th at the LookOut Bar on York St. It (as all events I organize are) is a pay-what-you-can/if-you-can event, with donations being gratefully accepted ( none too big or small! ). I'm also holding a raffle with awesome prizes from local artists, musicians and businesses, emphasizing the amazing talent we grow around here! There will also be a 50/50 draw
.
The Funds raised are being split to support two different causes this time, both very close to my heart.
The first is the Coalition for Justice for Levi, a campaign that I have been helping with since 2009. In the summer of that year, Levi Schaeffer, a member of the community in Peterborough, Ontario (where I was a nursing school student) was fatally shot by the O.P.P. in Pickle Lake, Ontario. In the time after Levi passed, his family was unable to ascertain exactly what happened to him in great part because the Officers involved did not submit clear and contemporaneous notes from which the Special Investigations Unit ( a civilian led body that investigates situations of force involving police officers ) could draw conclusive evidence. The pain of not being able to find out what happened to their son and brother caused the Schaeffer family to join with the family of Douglas Minty, another Ontario Resident who was shot with similar results, to start the long procedure of changing legislation of how police react in such situations, specifically that the decision be taken that they are not allowed to have their notes vetted by O.P.P.A. lawyers before being submitted. In November of 2011 there was a unanimous decision made at the Supreme court of Ontario that in fact supported this legislation. It was truly a victorious moment for the Coalition. Since then, however, the O.P.P. has appealed this decision, and so the process continues, and support is still needed. To find out more about the Coalition for Justice for Levi, you can visit www.justiceforlevi.org , or to see a really awesome and very comprehensive video about the situation check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKeOfP0alwY&feature=related

The second half of the proceeds being donated as an In Memoriam gift to the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center. In Febrary of this year I was devestated to find out that my best friend from childhood, Leanara Gallo was killed near Bakersfield, CA, where she had recently moved to from L.A.. Leo was fierce woman, a beautiful person, and a queer activist, and as such her family has asked that commemorative gifts be made to the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center, where she had done some work in the past. The L.A.G.L.C. is a multi-service community center that supports the GLBTQ community in L.A. To find out more about the services they offer please visit their website at www.laglc.org

Once again, I would like to thank you a million times for your help with this event. I am so happy to be able to take this opportunity to support these endeavours before leaving the city, and I couldn't possibly do it without you.

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 14: SINGAPORE

Late, late, late... again... but done!
This week I used an image of a rather unique sculpture that stands just outside the SAM: Singapore Art Museum on the right,  the one on the left is from outside the Superman Museum in Metropolis.
It reads:
"Things are HOT at the SAM: Singapore Art Museum"

This week Charity was writing to Duke:

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 12: Israel

That was a hard one! So many negative images came up on the search, I wanted Happy and Positive.
Think it was achieved...
Image of young students, Israel's bright future, overlaid with Heat Embossing.
The Star is from the 'Shalom!' Set made by Close to my Heart, then I free-hand (read: smeared) the stripes.

This week Charity is writing to Duke and it looks like her time travel band is back to working like a charm! (...for now...)

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 11: The Netherlands

Another week, another Postcard sent by one of the two history recording time travelers...

This Week Duke is in the Netherlands witnessing 1st hand the aftermath from the Great Dike Flood of 1825.
*THIS* was the hardest one for me to date... not a brilliant card by any means but done, and that's what's important. :O) Flag overlaid with a Dutch Windmill silhouette.

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 10: CANADA!

Home Sweet Home!
Should be easy right?
... you think I could get it in on time?
nope.

Problem was I *knew* we had this great photo in the extra storage drive that's been having a big'ol Diva hissy-fit this week, blocking everyone out at random moments. Beat it into submission today, huzzah!
Sooo... here it is:
Stamps on the front are all Stampin'Up! 'I Love Canada' set.
Picture's from the Mosaika performance here in Ottawa on Parliament Hill. http://mosaika-sl.ca/mosaika.asp?lang=en

Word Stamps on the back are Studio G and the Maple Leaf is from the SU! set.
Ohhh no... it looks like Charity's time travel band did goof-up... dropping her in a dangerous situation!

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 9: Switzerland

I'm late... ack!
Last week as many of you know has been stressful after a certain 'tool' got sh-tuck in the works.
hmm...
Tools... Swiss... Gotta assemble it quick...
Bingo!
eh... and I'm just a dumb Canadi-un who's never been more than 6 hours drive from home. Sweden vrs Switzerland. ooops.

Luckily I am a resourceful Canadi-un... and stubborn!

2nd front:
The original ooops:
IKEA Make-it-Yourself Postcard, complete with visual only instructions.

This week Douglas 'Duke' Murphy is writing to Ms. Charity.
Looks like he hasn't received her last postcard, the one explaining her time-travel band was starting to malfunction... oh dear.

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 8: Cuba

Went sh-exy for this weeks Postcard front... Super inspired (musta been that recent Sexapalooza event...) and went the Cuban Heel route with some extra sinful smokes to round things out. ;)
This week Charity is writing to Douglas.
oooo... it looks like she had some trouble with her time streaming device.
Let's hope that doesn't get any worse or she could wind up in the wrong place or the wrong time in the future... or is that the past...

Postcard Challenge 2012 Week 7: Wales

*squeed!* when I saw the theme this week...
Wales... Welsh... Welsh Corgis! Logical thought pattern for someone who was born to parents that have never been without a Corgi in da'house. lol

Went 'fun' on this card, been a lousy week of sick here...
*I* need the cheery grin-age.

This week had Duke traveling to 1925 for a Dog Show.

Book of Days: January 31st

Super happy with how today's lil bit of the book turned out...
*squee* Favorite day so far!

Used a 4X6" piece of art I made for the Try it on Tuesday Blog Challenge yesterday and made a flippy part in my Book of Days. Today I got Happy Mail from Debbie Prewitt... yummy Celtic card and envelope wrapped around some even yummier supplies. As anyone who 'knows' me knows I LOVE Celtic. In order to save the gorgeous envelope I used it today on the flip-side of the 4X6 Art. My main goal this year with my Art is to use what I have and what comes my way... Today is a great example!

Double Good News... Happy Mail AND I've been asked to write up a tutorial for Toucan Scraps Tutorial Blog on how I make *my style* of Journal Pages. Have 2 write-up for the March issue of Scrapbooking.com to get written in the next 2 days then I'm going to start working away on that ASAP!
It's a goooood week. :O) and a GREAT end to January.

Speaking of tutorials this is how today unfurled:
First I ran a strip of masking tape along the back of the 4X6" art...

Then I flipped it over and glued the envelope to the back,
trimmed the excess away... This way the tape was covered up.

Then I painted light green over my address, let it dry then a daub of white too.
Journaled and then taped it into my Book of Days.

Decided it's been a bit since I made a 4X6 Postcard size piece...

much like Miss. Unicorn herself.
