I'm BACK!

We *are* moved, YEAH! However we are faaaaarrr from settled.

Sadly, I missed a couple of DT projects because the Studio and all my art-sy type sh-tuff is still in boxes... 

and those boxes are packed in SOLID in the basement.

I've decided that all the little, and not so little, problems during a Move are FUN... and we've been having LOTS of FUN!!! I tell ya. :)

We do however Lurrrrve the new house.

SKETCH WITH STASH CHALLENGE #3

Create a layout using the sketch AND from you stash at least 3+ pre-made flowers from you stash.

(no hand made flowers! Remember we are using up our stash!) :)

On May 4th the whole family went down to one of the local Comic Book Shoppe's to help hand out copies of the intro of the Brand New 'The Steam Engines of OZ' comic book for FREE Comic Book day.
FREE Comic Book day every year on the 1st Saturday in May.
Our local Steampunk group volunteered to hand out copies, in full Steampunk dress at both our local Shoppe's. It was a great day... LOTS of people, tons of free comics handed out *and* we came home with a bunch of other titles for ourselves. Yeah, FREE comics!

My supplies are quite limited so I had to be real stash-savy for this layout.
Started by using a Gear stencil and some spray on a plain piece of cardstock because I couldn't find any full 12 X 12 pattern sheets... the rest of the paper came from a bag of scraps from the last Crop I was at. Thankfully it wasn't packed with the rest of my stuff! The white 'pattern paper' is a print off of the samples they had of a few of the new Comic Book pages on the FREE Cominc Book Day website. I also printed off a full color mini-version of the cover to tuck in behind the photo.
My favorite part of this layout in the Pebble Pictures, very 'comic book' looking, they have been in my stash forever and were perfect for this Comic Based layout. :)

~Kraft It Up~

THE CHALLENGE:

Create a LAYOUT and at least 50% of the products you use on your layout must be Kraft paper and/or embellies.   

Oh, and that's not it!  

You will have to dig further into your stash because...

you must include 3+ metal embellishments..  

You can mix or match the metal embellishments as long as there are 3 or more on you layout.

Someone said metal... *my* brain went Steampunk, as always! 

Time to scrap that stash of photos I keep trying to work through. These pictures were taken when we volunteered to help out Steampunk Ottawa at our local museum's Victorian Holidays event. 

Background paper, Simple Stories,  is kraft-y colored though not actual Kraft paper. 

The foreground paper is printed Kraft paper, also Simple Stories. 

Flower were punched from a paper bag with a Stampin' Up! Punch, then spritzed with Red Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, another lil spritz of Green under the family photo. 

 Felt holly is from AVON, gems from the $ store.

Metal in the title-work, $ store 'frame' and word.

Sprinkle of Tim Holtz gears here and there.

As well as the rows of alternating Keepsake Craft red and green mini brads. 

...and Yes, I poked myself a few times doing that many brads! lol

Apple Project, Part 2: Grungy Steampunk

Recently, through an Art Group on Facebook, a bunch of us 'artists' were asked to 'decorate an apple' for a fundraiser being held by one of the members... 

Was playing Teacher's Pet so *I* got two!

I've split the 2 projects into separate Blog Posts because there are lots of pictures of both apples.

The fundraiser will benefit Will Go Where, a non-profit supporting teachers who want to take their students on transformational education trips. Teachers will be able to apply for funds and then use those funds to raise the additional money required for the trip. Teachers who teach in schools that have high free/reduced lunch programs, rural schools, and those with 8 or less years in the classroom will be given priority.
I'm hoping the fundraiser will be ready for August and there will be an online presence so if friends/family or anyone who wants to bid on the apples, will be able to do so.

Part 2:

For my 2st Apple I had, had, HAD to make a Steampunk one... 'cause I'm *me*. 

This apple was a true labour of love... many, many days of layers and drying.

I LOVE IT!

Entire apple was sliced shallowly into 'sections, then painted with various metallic paints and finally dry brushed to make it good'n'grundy.

Gears inside are held in with brads, nails, pins and needles. I tried to use 3D Crystal lacquer but there was an odd chemical reaction with the metal, resulting in a curious blue fluid that refuses to dry. It looks wonderful! Happy accident just adds to the mystery... and looks a lot like some kind of mechanical oil. 

The window is packaging left over from some beads, held in with copper colored 3D Crystal Lacquer. 

The Key 'stem' is also attached with 3DCL. 

Studs are a mixture of brads (normal and screw head) and mini-pins (gold and silver)

Must say this apple weighs a LOT more then it did when it arrived! lol

Both apples are packed and ready to ship... off to a good cause!

 

 

 

 

 

Journal Prompt... goes Steampunk!

*happy dance* I'm all caught up on at least one thing! *woot woot*

This was made for the latest prompt in Cafe Dell Arte...

Tricia's prompt is to PLAY.

Decided it's been toooo long since I dragged my favorite papers, stamps, punches etc... out and went steam-y. :) Used paper scraps from my Steampunk collection ('cause I have a pretty big one now) to start, added gear punches and the 'ghost sheet' I punched out of... stencils, stamps and LOTS of paint and Glimmer Mist. I missed my gear-y goodness-y sh-tuff. More than I realized.

One of my favorite little bits of this is how her hat worked out... when I looked the 2 leaves were on the page (it was a botanical sheet), on her hat... so I drew them in. I also used the line if the side of the dress form to decide where her skirt would be... it was perfectly placed.

It perfectly described the past few weeks and how my life has been going. 

With the 'excitement' of the upcoming move, the physical aspects, the emotional and the chemical my body is in hyper-drive pain wise. Stress is a trigger and even 'good stress' can cause problems.  It's ALL good stress, at this stage (just don't say PACK near me it's the newest 4-letter word) but it's still stress and the body doesn't differentiate the good from the bad.

So I work out the P-A-I-N with P-A-I-N-T. (or markers or pencils or... you get the idea...)

These are the 4  pieces of Art that were created for and donated to Steampunk Ottawa. 

Had scans done of each one so that they can be made into notecards/postcards... vat'eva for future donations. The originals headed off to the Ottawa Geek Market back on October 14th.
