Elements: Fire -Passion in Motion

Running a little behind for 'Fire Week' in Elements...

The basic run-down without getting into the course specifics were to:
 *Focus on a 'burning  desire'
*Then ART the living crud out of it...
NO thinking allowed once you start making a mess!

...and it had to be to a soundtrack we created specific to this lesson.
(I've included some YouTube links to a few select songs off my soundtrack below)

Layers upon layers... and a HUGE mess in the Studio later...
My piece:

Tried to remember to stop and take a few photos as I went.

Paper Collage Layer...

 Splashed on some paint...
Then folded the pages over and squished...
Grabbed a leftover sheet I'd cut stars out for another project on and Glimmer Misted.
Then flipped the wet sheet over and pressed it into the other side...
More paper elements added and candy wrapped foil...
Then I highlighted a bit with pens and added the title.

Soundtrack Sampling:

Sarah McLachlan - Into The Fire

Lie to me - Theme Song

Albannach - Hornpipes (Live)

Loreena McKennitt -Beltane Fire Dance

Elements: Air- Beltane Page & 29 Faces

Today 29 Faces begins...
It is also Beltane so I had planned to do a page in my Elements Journal...
Your-Fer, Go Fer A Two-Fer!

Here she is all done...
The Maiden of Flowers

Saw this Icon floating around the internetz, thought the fleurs in hair look was awesome.
My Journal page is completely inspired from this:

I also popped on some YouTube Tune-age while working...
This is what I listening to today:

Started  with a pencil sketch...
Stamped a variety of Bugs and Flowers (all Stampin'Up!) in with StazOn...
Outlined the face/hair and defined the stamped images...
Then colored it all with Stampin'Up! Markers.
The added the Journaling...

The following is from Caitlin Matthews book "Celtic "Devotional"

Maiden of flowers, open the door,
Smith of souls, come you in.
Let there be welcome to the growing strength,
Let there be welcome to to the Summer of the Year.
In bud and blossom you are traveling,
In fruit and fragrance you will arrive.
May the blessed time of Beltane,
Inflame the soul of all beings.
Bringing energy and effort to conflagration.
From the depths to the heights,
From the heights to the depths,
In the core of every soul.

Keeping with the 'use what your doing'... been using the scraps in my book of days.

March 22nd:
Scraps from my Book of Elements, enough to replicate the cover!
Made this cool, lil' flippy section and journaled on the back.

Elements: Self Guided- Title Pages & Elements page

Finished the prep work for my Book of Elements last night... late, last night. Do so love the blessing of a project just flowing together, almost all one it's own. Flip side is when that means the creative juices are still flowing like a raging spring-thaw river at 3 AM... with a 5 AM... let's just say I am *VERY* Thankful for Starbuck's Tribute (crack!) Blend this morning.

This is the inside front cover, my all-elements page.
Doodled words, then watercolor painted (spirit/white is watered down acrylic), traced the letters again and the word highlighted with SU! markers.

Also, while I had all the matching markers/ink spots out to color the edges of all the pages. So they're all match-y match-y with the tabs and title pages. Already helped me when grabbing the book and wanting to flip somewhere quick.

Also got the title pages for each element/section done.
The 'Art-ing' sections have information from:
http://naturalmagickshop.com/articles/correspondences.html
font-ed, formatted and printed to fit on the pages. Lightly inked, traced in Sharpie and then finished the 'frames' with the matching markers. I wanted to add these as 'interest info', perhaps to fuel ideas but also as a permanent reference.
The 'Note-ing' section has the beginning of my 'clustering' exercises. Not much yet... but they will grow as the course goes on.

Elements: Self Guided on Book of Days Premium

So stoked to be starting a new Art Journaling Course on Book of Days in the Premium group...
Elements: Self Guided
We'll be working through the elements (air, fire, water, earth and spirit) as the coordinating seasons come.

Today I got my composition book prepped and ready to go!

I'm a gomer who suck-eth at slowing down long enough to take 'as I go' pictures so there isn't much 'in progress' to show.
This is the Book pre-makeover, with the binding taped as a guide. I cut handmade Mulberry Papers in the matching colors to make blocks on the front and back.
Wanted a circle for the spirit spot so I traced a CM cutter template with water and ripped it out.
Then *poof!* we're out of 'in progress' pictures and it's all done. lol
Attached the blocks front and back with glue stick. Was really pleased with the Air/yellow, it's very thin and the book shows through underneath, luv it. Between the blocks I laid down strips of black cardstock and also 'framed' the outside edges with thicker pieces. The spirit spots were a bit sheer so they are layered over smaller printer paper circles. The spine is also recovered in black cardstock.
The following the instructions in the course I tied cords through much of the book (about every 7 pages) and tied then off along the spine. I used embroidery floss is the 5 colors (red, blue, green, yellow and white) plus a deep plum.Once they were all tied on I used a comb to separate the threads.
Yes, I combed my book! lol
Then I *really* had some fun with the tabs. They are folded over black cardstock, punched out with an image to match the element and 'filled' with a scrap of printer paper colored with rubbed ink in the element color:
air-star-yellow
fire-sun-red
water-umbrella-blue
earth-leaf-green
spirit-swirl-pink-ish
Glued pages together for each 'tabbed' part. In the end there are 8 pages for 'arting' after the 1st tab and 3 pages for 'notes' after the 2nd in each element.
The final touch was the Hearts which are a broach I tore the pin off the back of and glue-gunned on.
I'm soooooooo in love with this book. *squee*
It turned out waaay better then I had pictured it. Go Muse!
and I Sarah... am a Mulberry Paper Addict. Love the texture, colors and look so much...
My book is fuzzy.
Just want to love it...
and cuddle it...
and call it...
DONE. :O)
