Guest Designer at Scrap that Poetry: March by Lucy Larcom

My layout was selected as winner for the 'May You Always Feel Loved' Challenge so...
I was asked to be a Guest Designer this round on Scraping the Poetry!
The Poem is:
March
by Lucy Larcom
*******************
I selected 2 lines from the Poem:
March! March! They will hurry
Forth at the wild bugle sound...
Using them under a photo of a painting, at the Canadian War Museum, of the Highland regiment marching to battle. These pictures were all taken an a visit to the museum this past Fall. My parents, husband and I waited to go on a kid-free-day so we could truly take-in all the museum had to offer. We spent almost an entire day strolling, reading and trying to take it all in.
It's a truly humbling experience.

Papers, Proud to be a Canadian sticker and the O Canada Tag are all from a ProvoCraft Kit.
Ribbons and bits of brass and jewelry used to make the 'medals' are all unknown stash stuff.
Courage metal sign is Keepsake Craft.

Scrap That Poetry #35: Children By Khalil Gibran

Challenge #35- Children

Children
by: Khalil Gibran
We enjoyed finding inspiration in this week's poem. Come play along with us and use any word, line or the poem in it's entirety to create your layout, card, 3D item.

*************
I must say I absolutely love the poem selections this round, it's a personal favorite.
I Scraped this great picture of William from Summer 2010. He looks so deep in thought...

Here is the whole Poem
(I highlighted the lines I used):

Children
by Khalil Gibran

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, 'Speak to us of Children.'
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

I used pattern paper and 'A little BIRD told me' sticker from Crate Paper.
Wee journal tag is from Pink Paisley.
Other paper Collage elements are from My Minds Eye and K&Company.
Flowers are Prima and Kaiser.
Gems are unknown ($ store).
Ink and Markers are Stampin' Up!, as is the corrugated cardboard indirectly... it was part of one of the boxes an order came in. ;O)

May You Always Feel Loved

by Sandra Sturtz Hauss

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world
You may not always understand.
May the pain you have known and conflict you have experienced
Give you the strength to walk through life
Facing each new situation with courage and optimism.
Always know that there are those whose love and understanding
Will always be there, even when you feel most alone.
May you discover enough goodness in others
To believe in a world of peace.
May a kind word, a reassuring touch, a warm smile be yours
Every day of your life,
And may you give these gifts as well as receive them.
Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.
Teach love to those who know hate,
And let that love embrace you as you go into the world.
May the teaching of those you admire become part of you,
So that you may call upon them.
Remember, those whose lives you have touched
And who have touched yours are always a part of you,
Even if the encounters were less than you would have wished.
It is the content of the encounter that is more important than it's form.
May you not become too concerned with material matters,
But instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart.
Find time in each day to see the beauty and love in the world around you.
Realize that each person has limitless abilities,
But each of us is different in our own way.
What you may feel you lack in one regard
May be more than compensated for in another.
What you feel you lack in the present
May become one of your strengths in the future.
May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility.
Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience.
May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself,
And not be dependent on another's judgement of your accomplishments.
May you always feel loved. .

Scrap That Poetry: Mistletoe/Winter Solstice

They were *perfect* for scrapping our Winter Solstice Night.
Pattern Paper is My Mind's Eye Holly Jolly: Ornamental
Lace is from my Auction Box collection.
Gem is unknown... a well placed afterthought. It was sitting on my desk so I added it on.
I wanted this to be embellishment 'lite', to not take away from the solemnity of the event.
All Journaling was highlighted by scrunching it up, flattening it out then working with yellow, then peach, then rust ink rubbing it lightly over the crinkled paper to make it look like soft fire.I didn't crinkle the title but it's shaded with the same ink, the same way.
Yellow ink was rubbed around the edges of the layout and in some of the white areas to warm it up.
The photos are also 'matted' with rust ink rubbed right on the background paper.

Journaling:
Winter Solstice December 21st 2010

We have a Huge feast with no electrical light, only candlelight...
As the sun set we blew out all the candles and a had a few moments to reflect each, alone, in the dark on the darkest night of the year. Then Greg lit one candle and read the poem. We passed the one candle around and each made a wish for the year ahead then used it to light the Yule Log, this being a cake for us. Then each taking another candle we relit the rest of the candles from the one light. Guests each took a candle home to light their own homes with the shared light.

Between Darkness and Light

by John Matthews

It is within the darkness and the silence

That the magic of Christmas starts;

Somewhere between the glimmer of lights

And the first breathless moment

When children come
Stumbling like new-born angels

Into morning light.

Within the darkness and the silence

We sit, watching wonder

Evolve into form; where we
Enter the ringing silence

In which the first bells of Christmas

Sound the music of the soul;

Where the morning joy begins

With a single carol
To a half-forgotten tune.

It is here, between the darkness

And the light,

That we wait, uncertain,
Seeking the moment

That challenges us to believe

In a freshly minted miracle

Born every Christmas Day.

From The Winter Solstice

Quest 1998

I've also decided to share this over at Sir Stampalot for the
January Challenge: A Winters Tale.
The stories and poems we shared that night by candlelight... that was what I thought of when I saw the topic.

Scrap That Poetry Challenge #23 Ode To the End of Summer

The Poem this week is:

Ode to the End of Summer
by Phyllis McGinley

I used a couple of pictures of Britannia Beach, abandoned once school started last year. It was so eerily quiet that day. No birds even...

Challenge #22- Home Sweet Home

by John Howard Payne

Journaling:

On May 31st 2010 we got our very 1st

Fairy Door!

Quoted from: http://www.squidoo.com/fairydoor
"Fairy Doors are magical items

and when placed into your home or garden

you can be sure that fairy folk from all around will follow. By "inviting" the little magical creatures in they bring good luck.

Fairy Doors let the "little people" into your house & garden. You can place them anywhere, on a wall, or baseboard, against a stone, a stump, a tree, literally anywhere you want them. Of course only

"they" can open them."

The boyz have reported a

flash something peeping out of the windows, seeing a crack of light under the door and the random rustling of leaves in the nearby plants...
hmm... it seems we just *may* have a fairy or two in residence.

The Home Sweet Home sign was a clip-art image I put on Cereal Box Board, eyelets and ribbon to finish the sign off. Then attched it with 'cheapie' Pop Dots, I use leftover EZ-mount foam. :O)

The Fairies are all FREE Digi-Stamps from:
Digital Two for Tuesday
Sticker Stampede Stickers (Welcome Home)
$ store Bling Swirls & Bugs
Flowers by Prima and Keepsake Craft.

I Scrapbooked *gasp*!

I know it seems that I almost never scrapbook... but I have been, honest!
It's just DT sh-tuff I can't share.
Sowy.
I did manage to get a page done for Scrap That Poetry #21.
(Also for #22 but I'm Guest DT-ing for that one! *squeal!!!!!!!*)
The Poem was Annabelle Lee by Edgar Alan Poe

Hard... but I found a line that super-appealed to me:
"For the moon never beams without bringing me dream"
lol... Maybe I'm still stuck on last weeks Dream Theme, but hey! It worked.
I just LOVE this picture of Greg sleeping with Baby Thomas (who is now 5 going on 6 soon!).
This is back when he was still 'Uncle Greg' and not 'Daddy Greg' like he is now.
(*gasp!* only 48 more days til the wedding!)
He's going to kill me for using this picture because he doesn't like it... TOO BAD!
Aren't they just so sweet???
