Week #47 - 'Get Creative'

This week the theme is 'Get Creative'!
Design a card or project using just stamping - NO PATTERNED PAPERS ALLOWED THIS WEEK - and your own, handmade embellishment(s)!

The main idea of this challenge is to get creative with your basic supplies (i.e. cardstock, ink, stamps). For this challenge, you can consider such things like ribbon, lace, buttons and brads - basic supplies. Hand make what you can, for example - make your background paper by repeating stamping to make a pattern, or use an embossing folder to create some pattern. Hand make a paper flower as an embellishment. Use your dies and punches to make embellishments, etc. -- do not to use anything manufactured that you can attempt to hand make and 'Get Creative'!

I discovered The Shabby Tea room just this past week... so this is my Newbie entry.
I made a Steampunk Card.
shhhhhh!!!
He never reads my Blog so I'm safe, this is Hubby's Valentine's Card this year.
Hallmark has yet to get on those Steampunk occasion cards... shame on them!

I used Krafting Kimmie stamps for the sentiment and figure. Hand colored (Copper hair and Grey eyes like mine) and cut out.
Clock and 'shadow' gears are a Stampin' Up! set.

I started by Glimmer Mist spraying my main background paper, some of my bottles are stuck so I pulled the sprayer out and dribbled the red, orange, yellow and green right from the lid.

Next I used my Gel-a-tins Get in Gear stamps to add some Gears.
Inked in both yellow and green.

Next was some Gear punches in Copper, rubbed down with brown ink to age/grunge a bit.

Soartful: Victorian Romance

Victorian Romance

I love Victorian Valentines.
They are filled with love, beauty and romance.

During the late 1800’s, handmade Valentines were elaborately crafted from paper lace, ribbons and delicate die-cut paper. Embellishments like gold and silver gilt and soft pastels along with the traditional pink and red gave each Valentine card a romantic air. Some of the most popular designs included bouquets of flowers, lovely young ladies and charming young children with ringlets of curls. There were also plenty of Valentine cards featuring hearts, cupids and love birds.

The Victorians didn't skimp on the extras on their Valentine cards and by the turn of the century they could purchase manufactured cards that were true marvels. Details might include embossing, scalloped edged, die-cut lace, watercolors, honeycomb detailing or intricately engineered pop-up versions that could be proudly displayed on the mantel.

Victorian ladies sent Valentine cards to their dearest friends and young swains would send them to the girls they admired in hopes of winning their hearts. Married couples always exchanged Valentine greetings, as did family members.

I decided to use the provided image as the center for my Card.
Shapes were cut out with the Creative Memories System, inked then stacked 3 layers deep.
Paper Doily was a plain white one I rubbed with gold ink them Heat Embossed.
Stamp sentiment is Stampin' Up!
Paper and Foil embellishments are K&Company.
Silver Glass Beads are $ Store attached with 3D Crystal Lacquer.

You might be thinking in terms of a pure black and white piece and that's good, or gone zetti with black and white stripes and lots and lots of color and that is also good, or maybe you will surprise us and show us something else entirely.
So remember everyone and all mediums are welcome and all we ask is that you have fun and show us what you create.

My brain went straight to a YingYang symbol since I've been reading about the Chinese Zodiac.
We are now in Year of the Rabbit.
I myself am a Wood Rabbit.
I decided to um, tweak my Symbol a bit.
Used a 2 1/2" Circle Punch to start,
then 1/4" Circle Punch for the eyes,
the ears are cut from Heart Punches,
all in Cardstock.
Back ground is part of a School Stock Image.
Edges are inked in Gold then Heat Embossed.

What a perfect challenge with Valentine's Day being celebrated this month!

Great chance to scrap some 'lost photos' that didn't end up scrapped last year.
Started with Black Cardstock and printed off 2 strip of photos, matting them as 1 'picture' each.
Inked the mats and also inked the Large Heart I cut for the Title/Journal Block.
I dug out my ancient Creative Memories Blade Cartridge Set for this... dusty!
Title is a mix of stamps (Close to my Heart, Stampology) and Stickers (American Crafts and Creative Memories) and ink (Stampin'Up!).
Finished up with some $ store Bling-age and Pink Paint Splatters.

The Altered Alice, Chapter 1: Alice Growing Thaumatrope

CHAPTER 1 Challenge - Week 1: Changes in form and dress forms!

"Alice crouched down among the trees as well as she could, for her neck kept getting entangled among the branches, and every now and then she had to stop and untwist it. After a while she remembered that she still held the pieces of mushroom in her hands, and she set to work very carefully, nibbling first at one and then at the other, and growing sometimes taller and sometimes shorter, until she had succeeded in bringing herself down to her usual height.

It was so long since she had been anything near the right size, that it felt quite strange at first; but she got used to it in a few minutes, and began talking to herself, as usual. `Come, there's half my plan done now! Well, just like Alice we have been through a change in location and changed form from weekly to monthly, but the challenge chapters remain familiar despite all these puzzling changes!

To reflect all these puzzling changes, the challenge is to make something that features a dress form, OR to make something that changes in form!
While it is not required that your project include Alice in Wonderland, we do encourage it.

I decided to make a Thaumatrope for this Challenge.

I used a free image from:
http://magpieonthehouse.blogspot.com/search/label/alice%20in%20wonderland With a little bit of snipping, jig-saw piecing and glue I managed to shrink Poor Alice's neck back down to 'normal'.
The Circle is a damaged CD,
edges inked (Stampin'Up!),
holes punched with a Crop-o-dile
and then added some lovely 'Alice Blue' ribbon (unknown source).
We tried to film it spinning, but our camera is not so fantastic with videos, it looks MUCH better in the flesh (plastic-paper-ribbon-ink...?).
But you get the idea with Alice 'changing' growing up & down, up & down...
